Staying Motivated

Have you ever noticed that when you start a new endeavor, you are so fired up that nothing can stop you?  Your belief is high, your vision is clear, and somehow any kind of initial fear or doubt is blindsided by your own enthusiasm.  You put your optimistic glasses on and imagine the most amazing outcomes. As I write that sentence, it almost sounds like I could be talking about a new relationship.  Remember when you were so in love that you didn’t see some blaring issues that eventually cropped up.  Issues that had to be dealt with whether you stayed with that person or not.

Staying motivated, building belief, and overcoming obstacles is the meat and potatoes of building your own business. If you are gathering teams of people or recruiting clients, there must be some simple practices to keep your energy high.  Success mindset must overwhelm any kind of doubts that arise from  what we perceive to be failure. Setbacks are inevitable and part of the process.  Acceptance of that is half the battle.  How do we stay motivated amongst all the no’s, the quitters, the hard work without immediate gratification?

I have found that reading from a positive motivating book for at least fifteen minutes every day provides me with fuel for thought, an uplifting sense of purpose, and more energy to meet the day.  It can rewire negative thoughts and emotions with which I am identifying because of my underlying wacky false belief systems.  I begin to see that others are faced with the same dilemmas and that there is hope for me and my silly self pity.  Reading about others experiences in business, self transformation or in spiritual matters can bring enormous perspective to my small world.

Of course, this kind of practice is good for anyone in any profession, but the reason I am suggesting this for business owners is because it takes a lot of guts, risk and persistence to be successful. Not only have you invested money up front with faith that it will work, but you have dared to follow your dream. Following your dream means it might fail two or more times before you get it right, so there must be things in place to keep you going. When you have your own business, you are putting yourself out there.

This is mindset coaching that has worked for me and will work for you.  Building belief in taking risks, in yourself and in your conviction to be successful will bring that very outcome. There will be plenty of people who will criticize what you are doing and who will try to tear you down without even meaning to. Their motivation may come from jealousy and insecurity, because misery loves company.  Remember the story of the crabs pulling the one crab back into the pot.

Besides reading motivational material, I stay active in the group with which I am working.  There is power in like minded people linked together for a purpose.  Perhaps those are colleagues working toward a powerful goal, individuals with the same kind of profession in a chat group, or uplines and downlines who can fire each other up. Meditation groups and retreats can help immensely.  Don’t miss the conference calls or corporate calls that keep you abreast of the latest developments. Don’t miss major conferences and retreats that can ignite life and inspiration into people who did not understand what they had their hands on.  When you hear about the success of others, it keeps you inspired.  If it is the success of a product you represent as an independent distributor, you then build belief in what you are offering people and how it can help them.

We all want to be in service to others and offer something of value which can change people’s lives whether it is a product or a service.  Sometimes we lose sight of that goal and get bogged down with our own success and failure. Holding each other accountable and giving each other support makes all the difference in the world.  A weekly phone call with a mastermind group, team or special interest group can make all the difference in the world.  We must remember that we are not alone in our life ventures, even if we have struck out to pursue the thing that made everyone else think we were crazy. Hold hands with some of the other crazies who have dared to do something meaningful.  You will find that they are the most uplifting people you will ever meet!!!
