How many of us are running around doing what we don’t love?
Are you doing a job just because it pays the bills? Are you longing to get creative, open that dream store, run your own restaurant, sell your creations or teach sailing?
In working with people to get more still and to gain greater awareness of Authentic Self, I find that certain issues come up around following their passion. Once we uncover an identification with, for example, being the good guy, we find unfulfilled desires and regret for pleasing others instead of self. Working with regret uncovers the ceaseless demands we make on ourselves just to be perfect and be loved.
Sometimes we uncover a strong fear of failure or….the strong fear of success which is simply another side of the same coin. This sincere desire to not make mistakes keeps us from trying anything that seems like a risk. No risk, no reward. That goes for any endeavor from improving a skill to spiritual enlightenment.
In other cases, a lack of self esteem comes barreling through and until we access the True Nature of Self and heal wounding, we continue to sabotage our passion and believe that we are not good enough.
Sometimes it is an identification with being a victim and blame is spewed out in all directions. In this case, we may be doing what we love but can’t make money or have success. Until we can reach a sense of forgiveness with others and ourself, that identification cannot be released and we will always blame other people and circumstances for our poverty.
It is a process to unravel these identifications, one that takes awareness, grounding and then release.
So what is stopping you from doing what you want?
What if I told you, you can make money from anything, especially your passion !!!! In fact, the stronger the passion, the more successful you will be.
When you believe in something with all of your Being and love what you are doing, you will have no problem telling others about it and making things happen. When you get total satisfaction from anything from creating, organizing, assisting, parenting, nutrition, exercise, cooking, to teaching whatever it may be, you can market that skill.
The next step is uncovering the limiting beliefs and identification with false roles.
As a musician and meditation mentor, I have found the most satisfying work enriching people’s lives. It is what I have spent my life doing because it is has enriched mine. Both are my creative outlets, and both have changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. I have been a loyal student of both disciplines for over thirty years. The key here is being a true student. Doing that keeps the juices flowing and brings meaning, renewal and understanding to life.
I did not drop either mission even when I got diverted by “making money”. When that happened, I put my whole self into making money for money’s sake, but something did not sit right with me. When I returned to my two passions, both fields successfully expanded like never before.
Somewhere somehow I had it lodged in me that one can’t make adequate money in music or in spiritual endeavors. That was just my limited belief system in full swing.
Everyone deserves to be paid for their time and services no matter what they are offering.
Does anyone expect someone to work for free? If I am an expert in my field and yield excellent results, then the price must be accurate and reflect that. There are always people willing to invest in excellence.
Are you charging your worth???
If you feel you aren’t excellent yet because of lack of experience, passion helps. You will gain the needed experience faster if you love what you are doing and become an excellent student. The very nature of passion means you love it which means you have a natural propensity toward it. It means you have a natural knack for it or a desire to really improve your skills in that area.
I believe if you want to be of service in the world, you need to offer up your passion. You don’t have to feed people in Africa. You need to be excellent at what you love. Then things will flow. It will be easier to make money. You will find your work to be satisfying and not an uphill battle to be met with each day.
- Obstacles become mere setbacks.
- Satisfaction and fulfillment become the name of the game.
- Things will work out because you believe in what you are doing.
- You will be an inspiration to others.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Do you wake up excited to do your work?
- Are you making money at what you love?
- Do you feel creative and inspired?
- Do you wish you were doing something else?
- Are you trying to do one thing to get something totally different?
- Do you find great purpose in what you are doing?
- Let me know what you come up with. If you could have it how you really want it, what would you be doing and how much would you be making?
