Outside of Time

Standing outside of time where different points of seeing and awareness sync up as if entering a sacred and eternal constant is a theme that emerges at Awareness School retreats. This is the place that fills me with a substance I can’t describe. It is visceral and palpable and…beyond explanation.

This can be for all of us and it is where we are all connected.multi fractal art

To bring this into everyday life is why we do retreats of this nature. Our aim is to understand an awareness of both inner and outer self in the diversity of life. We as individuals walk amongst each other, share ideas, projects and meals. We each bring to the table a certain flavor. Life can be seen from as many perspectives as there are people. Rather than getting sucked into the fray, we maintain our presence of self while participating in life.

We can learn to track our individual state and at the same time gain heightened awareness of those around us. In retreat, we are moving as a unit of people from activity to activity, like being in spiritual camp. We try to notice not only an energetic play between us, but one that we create together specific to the mix of individuals attending. For this reason, each retreat is different and can never be reproduced.

That unique mix this year created a most profound event. We all described entering moments of presence, recognizing subtle shifts of consciousness. As the week progressed, we became much more still; the moments of silence bringing us closer together in a common container. We had a chance to notice much much more.

Each of us came with individual aims, and realized it takes consistent practice and a build up of higher energies to make choices in any given moment toward that aim. These minute efforts coalesced the many parts of us that unconsciously pull us in all directions from second to second. Once we got this, we were struck by the level at which we could do what we set out to do. We understood Sacred Momentum. We learned what right effort felt like on a micro and macro level to produce real results.

It is how we overcome resistance.

It is how we get out of the way.

It is how we see the barriers that separate us from each other.

The movement classes were effective for this very thing. They served the purpose of learning how to be “all there”. If our emotions were flailing about, the part that is supposed to keep track of various gestures could not do its job. if there was fatigue or lack of refined energy, we learned it was impossible to implement the combinations. Through present action and impartially taking the gestures, we could alter the intricate web of deception, see what was previously inaccessible and step into a brighter future. We learned to laugh in the face of such challenge.

Those who were there will never look at themselves or each other the same way. We can be guided from a new template, available whenever we enter that place outside of time/space that connects us forever. We will be reminded at random times of such moments and sink deeper into self remembrance. We came to learn that very thing and were blessed with a multitude of reference points.

I sit today steeped in a wealth of gratitude for this Work, the dedication of the participants and the possibility for the future. The music, the various individual insights, the collective progress keeps coming back to me in waves and I know those of us there must all feel this.

There was something there in the format, the methods and the present moment that enabled us to enter it and expand and grow.

I look forward to seeing you at our future retreat.  The next week long retreat is August 23-30th on Whidbey Island.

  3. I drop a leave a response each time I especially enjoy a article on a site or I have something to valuable to contribute to the conversation. I was moved enough to drop a thought I actually do have a couple of questions for you if it’s okay. Is it just me or does it appear like some of these responses look as if they are left by brain dead folks?
